T2. Improved integration and security.

New: the Apple T2, our purpose-built second-generation Mac silicon chip. We started with some controllers in existing Mac systems, such as the system management controller, image signal processor, audio controller and SSD controller. We've completely redesigned them and integrated them into the T2, so you can now do whole new things on the Mac. For example, the T2's image signal processor works in conjunction with the FaceTime HD camera to provide better tone mapping, more exposure control, and automatic exposure/white balance based on facial recognition. The T2 chip also makes the iMac Pro even safer. It features a Secure Enclave processor that provides the basis for new encrypted storage and a secure way to start up. All data on the SSD is encrypted using dedicated AES hardware. This does not adversely affect the performance of the SSD, while the Intel Xeon processor remains fully available for the actual calculation. The secure startup feature ensures that the lowest software levels cannot be tampered with. At startup, only the operating system software designated by Apple as trusted is loaded.
